Permanent Collections

Mission

Boise State University Student Union permanent collections have been created to introduce the visitors and staff of the Student Union to a wide range of mixed media works. This collection provides an opportunity for the public, to be exposed to visual art media which promotes artistic expression and aesthetic understanding. Encompassing work from various artists with unique backgrounds and cultures, and employing numerous mediums, the collection creates a diverse mixture of style, content, subject matter, complexity in form and simplicity in nature. Because the collection has been acquired by different means it is separated into 4 categories: Gift from the Artist, Gift from the Faculty, the Art Mom Collection, and the Student Union Collection.

Collections

Gift from the Artist

Artists are our visual expressionists of this world. Working with various mediums, they communicate their stories, worldly perceptions, and poetic visions to us. By generously donating their work to the Student Union, the artist has given a part of themselves to us and the community enriching our lives in a most powerful way.

Gift from the Faculty

Boise State University's art faculty are an important component in the preparation of our future artists. Represented as mentors, personal advisors, and educators, the faculty becomes a source of inspiration, while impacting form and technique to their students.

Art Mom Collection

This collection is comprised of works that have been donated to the Student Union by individual people. Many of them have contributed their time and energy to educating students in the field of art, most particularly under the Art Mom Program in the elementary schools of Idaho.

Student Union Collection

This special collection represents work which has been purchased to aesthetically expand the atmosphere of the Student Union. Selections are recommended by the Art Advisory Board, which is comprised of community members, art faculty, Student Union and Student Activities staff, students, alumni, and past exhibitors. Members from this committee chose the work from artists residing in Idaho and parts of the Northwest.
