Advisory Committee

Student Union Art Advisory Committee

(As of January 3, 2009)

Purpose

The Student Union Fine Arts program recognizes the value of exhibiting local, regional, national and permanent art throughout the building. The Student Union Art Advisory Board is responsible for developing and interpreting policy; approving exhibition proposals and scheduling exhibitions in gallery spaces; coordinating fundraising efforts and grant writing; and recommending items to be placed in the Student Union Permanent Collection. The committee is an advisory board for the Director the Student Union Building.

General Expectations

  1. The committee will meet approximately 4 times a year to review proposals for gallery exhibitions and permanent displays in the Student Union.
  2. Off-campus visits to local galleries may be needed.
  3. Approximately 9 - 12 exhibitions shall be scheduled in the Student Union Art Gallery per calendar year.
  4. Approximately 2 exhibitions shall be scheduled in the Special Events Center Lobby per calendar year.
  5. When requested, the committee shall review and update the plan for acquiring and locating permanent art.

Membership

The committee will be made up of at least five individuals from this general list. At least 3 members will be students:

  1. Student representative from the Student Union Board of Governors (SUBOG).
  2. Student-at-large, Art Major
  3. Faculty representative from the art department
  4. Student Union staff
  5. Alumni
  6. Community member
  7. ASBSU Officer
  8. Student Residential Life
  9. Idaho Commission for the Arts
  10. Past exhibitors
  11. Student Programs Board (SPB)
  12. Fine Arts Manager for the SUB (committee coordinator, non voting)
  13. Fine Arts Assistant (non-voting)

Decision/Appointment Process

  1. Meeting schedule will be coordinated by the Fine Arts Manager for the SUB
  2. Majority of voting committee members must be present to make recommendations.
  3. Appointments - Fine Arts Manager for the SUB will contact department heads/committee chairs and request that student and staff names be submitted.

Facilities

The SUB currently has 2 rotating exhibition spaces:

  1. SUB Art Gallery - west of Grace Jordan Grand Ballroom, second floor
  2. Special Events Center Lobby

Gallery Applications

The Fine Arts Manager is always accepting Gallery Applications/Exhibition Proposals.
