SUB Performances Series

The Student Union Performance Series brings to campus artists who are the best, the most unique, and extraordinary; an eclectic blend of tradition and today. Special emphasis is placed on making the arts affordable for everyone. Performances are held in the Special Events Center - the intimate, on campus concert hall - located at the west end of the Student Union.

Location and Parking

All performances will begin at 8:00 pm and be located in the SPEC. Free parking available in the Library, Liberal Arts and Administration parking lots.

Season tickets are available starting Aug. 1, 2009 until Sept. 25, 2009.

  • BSU Faculty/Staff/Alumni = $24.00
  • Students/Seniors= $15.00

After Sept. 25, 2009 individual tickets are available for sale.

Andrew Sords, violinist, Dr. Del Parkinson, accompanist

At the age of 23, violinist Andrew Sords is already a veteran of the concert stage. He is the winner of the 2005 National Shirley Valentin Violin Award, the 2004 and 2005 National Federation of Music Clubs Competition, the Fortnightly Music Club of Cleveland and the Festival de la Orquesta Sinfonica de las Americas Competition of the Casals Festival among others. In 2008, Sords received international exposure as the top Google Classical News story as well as topping the Top-40 Charts in Classical. Sords has recently toured with the Brahms, Beethoven, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky violin concerti to critical acclaim, and has quickly emerged as one of the foremost violinists of his generation. Del Parkinson began studying piano at age five in his hometown of Blackfoot, Idaho. He now holds a doctor of music degree from Indiana University and a postgraduate diploma from The Juilliard School. He was the recipient of a Fulbright-Hays grant for graduate study in London. He was coordinator of piano instruction at Brigham Young University-Idaho, where he taught for eight years, and is now professor of piano at Boise State University, where he joined the faculty in 1985. Sara Buechner, pianist

Sara Davis Beuchner is a classical concert pianist of noteworthy accomplishment, virtuosic mastery, artistic sensitivity and extraordinary versatility. A major prizewinner of many of the world's most prestigious international piano competitions, Buechner established her career by winning the gold Medal of the 1984 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City, Utah, and as a Bronze Medalist of the 1986 Tschaikowsky International Piano Competition in Moscow. New York Woodwind Quintet (NTWQ)

Entering its seventh decade, the New York Woodwind Quintet remains one of the most distinguished chamber ensembles touring the world today. An Ensemble-in-Residence of the Julliard School, the NYWQ has enjoyed close associations with composers ranging from Samuel Barber to Jon Deak, and has a long legacy of premieres, commissions, and elegant transcriptions to its credit. With performances around the world, numerous acclaimed recordings, and 15 years of mentoring musicians at Julliard, the New York Woodwind Quintet continues to define great wind playing in the United States and beyond.
